Economic news releases create volatility. Traders can use different strategies to benefit:

  1. Pre-news Positioning: Taking a position in anticipation of a report.
  2. Post-news Confirmation: Waiting for the dust to settle before trading.
  3. Straddle Orders: Setting buy and sell stop orders above/below price to catch breakout moves.

Risks:

  • Slippage: Orders filled at worse-than-expected prices.
  • Whipsaws: Sudden reversals.
  • Widened Spreads: Higher transaction costs during volatile periods.

Success in news trading requires quick execution, solid risk controls, and an understanding of market expectations versus actual results.
