Stock exchanges are centralized platforms where stocks are listed and traded. The most prominent exchanges include the NYSE and NASDAQ in the United States. Stocks must meet listing requirements to be traded on these platforms.
To access these exchanges, traders use brokerage accounts. Online brokers such as Fidelity, Charles Schwab, and Robinhood allow individuals to buy and sell stocks. Brokerage accounts can be cash accounts or margin accounts, with the latter allowing traders to borrow funds to leverage trades.
Understanding brokerage fees, account types, order types, and trading platforms is crucial to efficiently engaging with the stock market.
